Jazz Prayer: Coming Together

November’s theme for Jazz Prayer is “Coming Together,” as we welcome new-to-us musicians the Prohibition Trad Jazz Band, led by Daniel Sniderman. “Trad Jazz” stands for traditional jazz from the early big band era. The band playing at the November 17th Jazz Prayer are all members of the larger Prohibition Trad Jazz Orchestra. Here’s how they describe their style:

We are a 10-piece band dedicated to playing the music of the early big band era. All of our arrangements were published from 1923 to 1934.  It's the real authentic sound, and we're the only Chicago-area band currently playing in this style. In addition to capturing the music as authentically as possible, we seek to capture the era's brash sense of fun.

As we listen to this traditional jazz music, our readings will lean into the possibilities for new harmonies for humanity, something we certainly need today. Coming together isn't about losing self to a melting pot, but instead reveling in the differences to create new possibilities, new harmonies, new inclusive ways forward. Join us on November 17th. Doors open at 7:10p and music begins at 7:30p. For more information, see our Jazz Prayer page.
