Christmas Eve Candlelight Service

Festival music sets the tone for telling the ancient story anew. Through familiar hymns and rituals, we pass the sacred story from one generation to the next. After candlelight and Silent Night, we go from the sanctuary into the world, knowing that God is with us.

Christmas Eve preservice music starts at 8:45 and features inspired music for the Nativity presented by outstanding singers and instrumentalists. Operatic soprano Tracy Cantin and jazz guitarist Dave Miller join us again this year in collaboration with our own Linda Fisher on harp, Evan Campbell on violin, Mary Scherer-Emunds on flute, Dan Feiertag on percussion and bass, and Carl Heine on organ, piano and melodica. Among the highlights is the debut of an original Christmas anthem for choir based on the text "Peace Came to Earth" by Jaroslav Vajda. This service will be livestreamed here.

In keeping with the Good Shepherd tradition, all are invited to gather for Glühwein (hot spiced wine) and Christmas cookies after the service. Bring your extra Christmas cookies to share!
