Affirmation of Baptism

This year we are transitioning our traditional rite of confirmation into a time of affirmation of our students. Indeed, the confirmation rite is actually called “Affirmation of Baptism.” It is so named because students traditionally will have gone through a period of intentional learning, followed by a public statement to affirm the promises their parents made at their baptism. Over the years this “affirmation” language turned into “confirmation.”

We at Good Shepherd want to reclaim the affirmation. And not students simply affirming their faith, but we as a congregation affirming our students. It’s a great opportunity for us to remind our young people that we value them as individuals and to reflect back how we’ve seen them grow; to remind them that they are an important part of our congregation. And we are asking for your help.

Would you be willing to write a positive note to one of our students? Maybe share an inspiring word or favorite bible verse? Do you know one of the students well and can share specific things that you appreciate about them?

The names of students will be available in the back of the sanctuary, or if you’d like a list of students, please contact the church office.
