Celebrate Earth Day

Walk or bike to church on Sunday and receive a packet of non-GMO heirloom seeds. During the Education Hour adults delve into the issue of Environmental Justice with Bill Peterman, emeritus Professor of Geography and Urban Studies at Chicago State University. One issue will be the impact of the Eisenhower Expressway on communities that have low automobile usage. Children and Youth learn about the hierarchy of Sustainability's 3 R's: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. This all takes place on Sunday, April 22nd.

Jazz Prayer: ReNew the Cool

ReNew the Cool is the answer to global warming in on April 20th. Those who come by bike or on foot will receive a special treat. Music will include Miles Davis from the album "Birth of the Cool", which was credited with starting the cool jazz movement, as well as "In the Beginning" from Duke Ellington's Sacred Concert. Doors open at 7:10pm for appetizers and conversation. Music begins at 7:30pm.  This non-denominational event creates an opportunity for reflection and meditation in an ambiance of quality live jazz music. You'll encounter an hour of music like this. LSSI (Lutheran Social Services of Illinois) has been caring for God's lambs and sheep for 151 years, ever since it opened its first orphanage on Illinois' western prairie. On April 22 we celebrate our partnership with LSSI, which remains the largest statewide provider of social services. It's spring ... birds, tiny flowers and time for the CROP Walk.  Since 2005, Good Shepherd has raised over $25,000!  Let's keep it going.  Our goal is to raise $3500 this year. Click here to sign up for the walking team or to donate. Remember, some of the money we raise goes to local food banks, other monies go to Lutheran World Hunger and worthy agencies around the globe. On May 6th registration begins at 1pm at Pilgrim Congregational on Lake Street and the walk begins at 2pm.
