Christian Education during Social Distancing

During this time in our world where we cannot come together in person to worship or participate in faith formation activities at church, I am reminded that the most influential people in developing faith in our children are their parents. Despite the many things that pull our children in so many directions, it is the words and actions of parents that run the deepest in our children's minds and hearts.

As the world around us is chaotic and crazy, our children will be looking to their parents to help make sense of it all. What a wonderful opportunity to reiterate the message of God's love and grace that surpasses everything. And to share the message that God walks with us through suffering and uncertainty.  Read more »

Peace Amid the Pandemic: A Spiritual Response to Anxiety
Join us for this virtual presentation and discussion led by Good Shepherd member Pete Chapman. Pete has been a professional social worker for 36 years and currently works as a Behavioral Health Consultant at PCC Wellness Center in the Austin community on the West Side of Chicago. Pete will talk about brain activity and how thinking can influence emotions. He will demonstrate a relaxed breathing technique, and share a brief scripture reading for quiet reflection and meditation. The program will end with time for comments and discussion. Zoom link to come.

Living Our Baptism

This year our Sunday School lessons will help us live into the promises parents and congregation make when a child is baptized. Each month we will explore a different promise through bible stories and special activities. Parents will begin the year by renewing their baptismal promises and will receive the book, "Living the Promises of Baptism: 101 Ideas for Parents." A monthly communication from Deaconess Debbie will help make connections between that month's topic and ideas from the book that can be used at home.

Faith Formation on Sunday mornings

SUNDAY SCHOOL is for children ages 2 through 6th grade. Ages 2 through 4th grade begin in the Chapel at 10:30am with music and then break into age group classes for rotations that go along with the Bible story of the week. 5th and 6th graders meet in a 3rd floor classroom and use the Connect curriculum from Sparkhouse.

MIDDLE SCHOOLERS (7th/8th grade) meet on Sunday mornings as part of the Confirmation program.

TEENS meet on Sundays at 10:30 for our Youth Connections class and for special events as announced.

ADULTS:
1. Sunday Morning Bible Study meets in the Parlor at 10:30am for readings, on-the-spot research, stimulating discussion and good fellowship. No previous Bible-study background required. No homework! Read more »

Splash! Faith Formation from birth to age 3

This ministry is aimed at our youngest members, and helps to keep the congregational promise to support the baptized and their families in their spiritual journey. We do this by helping parents in their role of bringing up children of God.

Materials are sent out on a regular basis, with ideas for faith-filled play, worship, and more. For more information, or to sign your family for Splash mailings, contact Deaconess Debbie at christianed@goodshepherdlc.org.

Good Shepherd PrayGround

Good Shepherd values our children! When we return to our renovated space, we will once again have a Prayground space front and center.

What's a "Prayground"? It's a dedicated space in our church where little ones (suggested for ages 5 and under) can play, color and explore. It's a space where they can see and hear the pastor and worship leaders clearly. And it's a place where the congregation can celebrate the joy that your child--wiggles, noises and all--brings to our congregation!

In the meantime, look for activity bags for children as well as a staffed nursery during our worship service at the First Baptist temporary location.
