Vacation Bible School

The 3rd week of June is our VBS week!  This is a week long learning experience which combines a meal, Bible stories, music, fun and games.  The theme changes each year.  We hold VBS Monday through Friday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.

Fire Update - September 6

Wednesday, around lunch time, a fire took place in our church building that resulted in significant damage. I praise God that no one was injured. The church is not habitable as it is damaged with water and smoke throughout, but the structure is still sound. The rough estimate is that repairs will take us into 2019.

I am thankful that no one was hurt, that the fire department responded quickly, and that we have a responsive insurance company and possible fire restoration company. I am particularly grateful that the Council and church leaders have already stepped into action. Read more »

Worship on the Move

The Randolph Street building is now a fire remediation site. We have moved operations temporarily to the First Baptist Church, 820 Ontario Street, Oak Park. Entrances are directly across from Scoville Park. The sanctuary is on the second floor. We ask that you leave parking directly in front of First Baptist for their congregation, unless you have ability issues. Parking is available in the Public Garage at 720 North Blvd. by the Green line elevated train. Wait at the elevator lobby for a shuttle if needed.

Sunday, September 16: We will have Education Hour at 9am and Worship at 10:30 am. Read more »

Fire Update - September 15

Pastor Kathy has spent lots of time shuttling between her two new offices. The two chairs on the porch at the front doors of Good Shepherd allows conversation outside of a building that is still filled with smoke. An office on the third floor of the west wing at First Baptist is turning into the office space for Good Shepherd staff.

The week has been filled with two activities: First, there have been lots of meetings with insurance adjusters. Last week we focused on remediation at the building, which is the process of getting all of the water out, boxing up things that need an ozone treatment to remove the smoke, and scrubbing the air of smoke. Except for the boxing, the rest is an ongoing process. The floors and ceilings are still showing signs of significant water.  Read more »

A Welcome Message

Welcome to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where our doors are wide open to people from all backgrounds.

We want to be a place of blessing. If you are just beginning to wonder about Christianity, this is a safe place to ask questions and explore possibilities. If you have been journeying with Christ for some time, this is a place to grow deeper in your walk as a disciple. If you have wandered here and there or up and down in your spiritual journey, this is a place to speculate, marvel, seek and find.

And, whether you live out your faith primarily through study, meditation, emotional experience or social activism, you can find others at Good Shepherd who share your spiritual temperament. This is a place of open doors, open minds, open hearts, open hands.
